I have to say, although Autumn is my favourite season of the year it is always a struggle to say goodbye to summer. I adore pub gardens and sunny days at the beach and letting go of those for another year saddens me. I also love summer fashion and not having to year a billion layers, hence why this September and October I will be transitioning my wardrobe gradually instead of what I usually do, being whip out all my winter jumpers as soon as the colder days roll in. Not only will this help saying goodbye to Summer easier for me by getting a little bit more wear out of my summer items before stashing them away until next year, but it will also make me appreciate my warm cosy jumpers more when the real cold sets in in a couple of months.
I never used to wear stripes or even feel like I suited them, in fact I only own two stripy tops would you believe it! However, I haven’t stopped wearing this top I picked up from Primark, in fact I am wearing it right now as I am writing this! Its super comfy and soft but can be dressed up or down. The mid length sleeves are perfect for this time of year as they aren’t too shot that you’re going to get cold arms but they also aren’t so long that you look like your ready and braced for winter. Its a loose fit so tucked into jeans or a skirt gives a relaxed feel and if it was a bit chilly, you could easily put a top on underneath and no one would notice. I think stripes are the epitome of Autumn but this top has a Summer style therefore is the perfect transitional item. Not to mention it was just £7!
I bought this skirt over a year ago and I have only recently started wearing it! I love this zip detail at the front as well as the way it fits. If it was too cold you could pop on some tights underneath and the outfit would still look perfectly transitional. I feel this skirt is a statement skirt, therefore paired with a casual top balances the look out into a fantastic day to night outfit that isn’t too glam or too casual. The faux leather is a great insulator, providing that extra bit of warmth when you need it. I feel Leather encapsulates Autumn however because of this skirt being a mini skirt it draws in styles from summer while still suiting the current season.
I only ever wear these in Autumn and winter. I love how they slightly elongate my legs but are also comfortable and replicate my style when paired with a skirt or dress. I’ve already said goodbye to my beloved espadrilles but it’s ok because I love these and how perfect they are for transitional looks, they aren’t your full-blown out chelsea boot that we al know and love when it comes to the colder months, but they also aren’t your slip-on Summer trainer at the same time. They are somewhere in the middle and go perfectly with the look I was going for when thinking of a transitional outfit.
I love switching up my makeup looks as the seasons change. I sometimes believe that you can make a summery-ish outfit look transitional just by the way you do your makeup. Dewy makeup has to be my absolute favourite however as the weather is getting colder I have started making my makeup more matte and therefore more weather-proof and long-lasting. In Summer I only really tend to wear bronzer in the crease of my eye and maybe a bit of light coloured shimmer but thats it. Whereas, now I am transitioning, not only my wardrobe but my makeup, into Autumn I have been opting for a taupe coloured eyeshadow look. It isn’t a full blown smokey eye or my traditional bronzey eye makeup look that I tend to do during the winter months but it really solidifies the whole look so theres no question as to which season I’m transitioning into. I used the Tarte, Tartlette palette to achieve this look and I haven’t stopped wearing it! I have had this palette for two years and it is one of my favourites. It is perfect for Autumn/Winter makeup!
I really hope you enjoyed this post! How are you transitioning your wardrobe and makeup into Autumn?
